BOOKS TAX & MORE

Taxes can be complicated enough on their own. When a person or business is facing an IRS dispute, unpaid tax debt, or a notice from a state tax authority, the situation can quickly become overwhelming. For many taxpayers, knowing where to begin is often just as difficult as finding a solution.

This is where experience and the right guidance can make a real difference. Mr. Perry, CEO of Books Taxes & More, has built his career around helping individuals and businesses deal with tax challenges while making sure their rights are protected. With a background that includes service as a U.S. Army Major and years of work as an Enrolled Agent, Mr. Perry brings a strong sense of responsibility and advocacy to his work.

His approach is practical and straightforward. He believes taxpayers should not wait until a problem becomes serious before seeking help, and that good tax planning should be part of a person’s or business’s financial strategy throughout the year.

A Career Built Around Helping People

Mr. Perry’s connection to the tax profession began much earlier than his career. He grew up in a home where his mother prepared tax returns, so he was familiar with the world of taxes from a young age. Still, when he started thinking about his next career, simply preparing tax returns did not feel like enough. That changed when he discovered the Enrolled Agent program and learned that he could represent taxpayers.

The opportunity immediately appealed to him. His years in the Army had already given him a strong sense of duty and a desire to protect others. Moving into taxpayer advocacy allowed him to bring that same mindset into a new area. For Mr. Perry, helping taxpayers through difficult situations became a natural extension of the responsibility he had carried throughout his military career.

Helping Taxpayers Face Difficult Situations

One of the biggest challenges Perry sees is that people often do not know how to respond when they hear from the IRS or a state tax authority. Some believe they can simply negotiate on their own, while others make the mistake of ignoring letters and notices because they are unsure what to do.

Perry believes both approaches can make an already difficult situation worse. Tax authorities have a clear responsibility to collect taxes, and taxpayers need someone who understands the rules and can represent their interests.

His work can involve a wide range of situations, from correcting inaccurate information and arranging payment plans to helping clients deal with collection issues or resolve tax debts. The goal is not simply to address the immediate problem but to help clients get back to a position of compliance and stability.

Taking a Proactive Approach to Tax Strategy

For Mr. Perry, effective tax strategy starts with getting the basics right. That means ensuring tax returns are filed, outstanding balances are addressed, and payment arrangements are in place when necessary.

Once those issues are under control, he works with clients on a more proactive basis. Businesses may need to consider the tax consequences of major purchases, changes in company structure, or other important decisions. Individuals may also benefit from regular conversations about their financial circumstances, particularly when major life events change their situation.

Mr. Perry believes that tax planning should not be something people think about only when a deadline approaches. Regular attention throughout the year can help individuals and business owners avoid unnecessary surprises.

Leadership Lessons That Began in the Army

Mr. Perry’s military background remains an important part of how he approaches his work. As an Army officer, he was responsible for the people serving under him. His priority was to make sure they were protected, trained, fed, and supported.

That responsibility shaped the way he thinks about leadership. He remembers making sure his troops had food and water before taking care of himself. The same principle now influences how he works with clients.

The circumstances may be different, but the underlying responsibility is similar. Mr. Perry sees his role as being there when people need someone to guide and protect them through a difficult situation.

Why Business Owners Should Delegate Tax Matters

Mr. Perry also encourages entrepreneurs to recognize the value of delegation. Business owners often try to handle every aspect of their companies, even when certain tasks fall outside their expertise.

His advice is simple: focus on what you do best and allow qualified professionals to handle the rest. For someone who has built a business around a particular skill, spending valuable time trying to understand every detail of tax planning may not be the best use of that time.

Having a trusted tax professional involved can allow business owners to concentrate on running and growing their companies while making sure their tax responsibilities are properly managed.

Technology Is a Tool, Not a Replacement

The tax profession is changing as technology, automation, and artificial intelligence become more common. Perry sees these developments as useful tools that can make the work of tax professionals more efficient.

In his view, technology can take care of much of the routine and repetitive work. That gives professionals more time to focus on the situations where experience, knowledge, and judgment matter most.

He does not see AI replacing the human side of tax work. Instead, he believes it will make professionals more effective by helping them research information, organize their work, and spend more time on complex issues that require expertise.

Standing Up for Taxpayers

At the heart of Mr. Perry’s work is a strong belief in taxpayer advocacy. He has never liked bullies, and that attitude has stayed with him throughout his career. He believes taxpayers should understand their rights and that tax authorities should be held to the same rules they expect taxpayers to follow.

For Mr. Perry, the most satisfying moments come when he can take a difficult burden away from a client. A tax problem can affect every part of a person’s life, creating stress that extends far beyond finances.

When a case is resolved, a payment plan is established, or a client is finally able to move out of collections, the impact can be significant. Mr. Perry’s work gives people the opportunity to put the problem behind them and focus on their families, careers, and businesses.

Even in an AI World, Good Tax Advice Still Needs a Human Touch

Mr. Perry expects technology and AI to play an even larger role in tax strategy in the years ahead. However, he believes the need for knowledgeable professionals will remain.

Tax laws will continue to change, financial situations will continue to evolve, and people will still need someone who can understand the details and make informed decisions. Technology may make the process faster, but professional judgment will remain important.

His advice to individuals and business owners is ultimately straightforward: stay proactive, keep up with your tax responsibilities, and seek professional guidance when you need it. With the right approach, tax planning does not have to be something people fear or avoid.

For Mr. Perry, it is about more than numbers and paperwork. It is about helping people deal with difficult situations, protecting their rights, and giving them the confidence to move forward.

“We help you keep more of what you earn, make informed financial decisions, and stand between you and unnecessary issues with the IRS or state revenue agencies.”
