Multipurpose timesheet software is crucial in modern businesses by providing an indispensable means of tracking and managing time effectively. It enables organizations to monitor employee work hours, project timelines, and resource allocation, fostering transparency and accountability.
In this context, TimeControl by HMS Software stands out as a powerful solution that can significantly contribute to these objectives. With its user–friendly interface and robust features, TimeControl allows businesses to streamline their timesheet management processes.
Evolution and Development of TimeControl
In 1984, HMS Software received its first request to create a customized timesheet system. It seemed like a simple task at first: create a timesheet that could be used to update both the new project management system with project progress and the payroll system. However, it turned out to be a much bigger challenge than anticipated. The company quickly learned that there are different perspectives on how to collect time in a timesheet.
The entry screen was straightforward, but once the data was entered, perspective became crucial. For the payroll department, it was important to know how much time each person spent at the company. They also needed to determine if an absence was excused or not, and whether any overtime had been requested by the company. On the other hand, project managers didn’t care about those details. If an employee had only been at the company for one day last week, all the project manager wanted to know was what had been accomplished during that day.
During the following decade, HMS Software developed multipurpose timekeeping systems that piqued curiosity. Each of these systems was connected to a project management tool and at least one other corporate system for its clients.
In 1994, the company made a significant transition from a project management consulting firm to a software publisher. They utilized their expertise in creating customized timesheets to release TimeControl as a ready–made product for commercial use.
TimeControl: Efficient multipurpose Timesheet Software for Time Management
Since 1994, TimeControl has undergone significant advancements and has become widely recognized as one of the top timesheet systems in the project management community. What sets it apart from its competitors is its remarkable ability to cater to multiple purposes simultaneously.
TimeControl is highly adaptable and can fulfill various roles within different parts of an organization. While TimeControl has always been designed with a project management perspective, it also encompasses elements that are relevant to other areas of the organization. Its entries, adjustments, and approvals are auditable, making it suitable for tasks such as Payroll, Billing, job costing, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, R&D tax credit reporting, Defence Contract Audit Agency compliance, and much more.
TimeControl is now available in two versions: an on-premise software solution and an In-the-Cloud Software as a Service subscription. It offers several editions, including an Industrial version and TimeControl Project, which provides a unique set of tools for establishing project control environments.
Solve your real-world business challenges from a single timesheet with powerful built-in integration.
TimeControl’s Solutions to Real–world Business Challenges
TimeControl is a versatile timesheet that offers a wide range of modules and services. It allows for auditable adjustments through the Debit/Credit function and manages time off entitlements in the Accruals module. Additionally, it has a comprehensive report-writing engine. TimeControl also features a unique Matrix Approval Process for Labor Actuals, which enables approvals for both the entire timesheet and individual line items.
Each deployment of TimeControl is tailored to meet the specific needs of different organizations. The remarkable approval process allows internal and external stakeholders to approve data simultaneously, resulting in significant reductions in cycle time for contractor billing, approval cycles, and project reconciliation with Finance.
Furthermore, TimeControl seamlessly integrates with project management tools like Oracle’s Primavera or Microsoft Project, greatly reducing the time required to update projects. By using the same input for Payroll, Project Management, and R&D Tax Credit reporting, TimeControl can significantly reduce audit times. One of the major benefits reported by clients over the years is the elimination of multiple timesheet systems.
Trailblazing Approach to Setting Industry Benchmarks
HMS staff constantly research industry trends and collaborate closely with each other. Their technical staff regularly switch roles between developer, technical support, and deployment functions, allowing them to gain a comprehensive understanding beyond just development.
The company’s sales team works closely with their technical staff to stay updated on industry needs and changes. Their team leaders frequently speak at industry events, emphasizing the importance of communication within the organization. To ensure everyone is informed, the organization holds regular all–staff meetings.
Maintaining Competitive Advantage in the Industry Landscape
The company prioritizes value and aims to enhance the effectiveness of its clients. All the individuals it recruits share the same orientation. Unlike some others in the industry who join intending to leave, this organization is committed to staying and excelling in the industry. This mindset makes it challenging for competitors to compete against them. One of their mission statements is that every client should be referenceable, and they take this commitment seriously.
Let’s hear about Chris Vandersluis, the CEO, in his own words
I have been in the project management and project timesheet industry since 1984. As the president of Montreal-based HMS Software, we are known as the publishers of TimeControl, a multi-purpose timesheet system that is available both as software as a service subscription in the cloud and as a licensed solution for installation on-premise. My experience in project management systems over the years has led me to work with some of the top technology companies such as Microsoft, Oracle, and Deltek and some remarkable clients including AMD, Andritz, Interpol, and Homeland Security in the US. When I can, I love speaking with people in the project management and finance industries at venues like the Project Management Institute and Project World.
