The Florida Hotel and Conference Center in Orlando, Florida is a popular destination hotel for couples, business travelers, and convention goers due to its location and amenities. As part of its recent renovation, the hotel called for all new exterior lighting to illuminate the façade in a dynamic, yet sophisticated manner, as part of the overall update to its facilities, branding, and image.
While RGBW light sources were considered initially, the design team selected dynamic white light as the preferred choice commensurated with the tastes of guest clientele. Several manufacturers were considered on the basis of performance, cost, ease of installation, and mounting flexibility. The design team generated calculations and renderings using each of the manufacturer’s products, followed by on-site mock-ups of selected products to compare calculated performance versus actual experienced results. In the end, it was determined that Griven was the ideal match to the customer’s criteria. According to our representative, David Silverman & Associates, the Griven option was “bigger, better, and brighter at the lowest cost.”
The main structure of the building features wings at either end that extend beyond the entrance to form a U-shaped footprint. The lighting design divided the numerous faces of the building into twelve defined zones for programming a variety of scenes to work with the DMX control system. Fifty-seven Jasper luminaires equipped with snoots were located around the building to illuminate the façades of the 11-story structure with an appealing dynamic alternation of white shades. Seven different light distributions were used throughout including an ultra-spot distribution with 7° beam and an elliptical beam in vertical orientation to effectively highlight tall and narrow portions of the building. Six Jade 16 luminaires with medium beam optics accent rooftop details to complete the design. The luminaires were mounted in several configurations using pole-top slipfitters, wall mounting brackets, ground mounting stakes, or mounted directly to surfaces.
David Silverman & Associates, the specifying representative agency, in close collaboration with the distributors, Regency Lighting, provided the optimal technical support throughout the design process, as well as supplied the controls package and commissioning services, to ensure a successful installation.

Il Florida Hotel and Conference Center di Orlando in Florida è un hotel molto apprezzato da coppie, uomini d’affari e aziende per soggiorni e convegni grazie alla sua posizione ed all’ampia offerta di servizi. Nell’ambito di un recente processo di rinnovamento che ha coinvolto struttura, marchio e immagine, la direzione dell’hotel ha fortemente voluto una nuova illuminazione esterna per ravvivare la facciata dell’hotel in modo dinamico, ma sofisticato.
Sebbene inizialmente fossero state prese in considerazione sorgenti luminose in RGBW, il team di progettazione ha poi invece preferito una luce bianca dinamica come soluzione più adeguata ai gusti della clientela. Diversi produttori sono quindi stati presi in considerazione sulla base delle prestazioni, dei costi, della facilità di installazione e della flessibilità di montaggio dei prodotti proposti. Il team di progettazione ha generato calcoli e rendering utilizzando ciascuno dei prodotti delle diverse aziende produttrici ed effettuando successivamente dei mock-up in loco con i prodotti selezionati per confrontare le prestazioni teoriche con i risultati effettivi. Sulla base dei test realizzati, è emerso che i corpi illuminanti Griven rispondevano perfettamente a tutti i requisiti del cliente. Secondo il nostro rappresentante, David Silverman & Associates, l’opzione Griven era “migliore, più adeguata e più luminosa al minor costo”.
La struttura principale dell’edificio presenta alle estremità due ali che si estendono per formare un’enorme U. Il progetto illuminotecnico ha suddiviso le numerose facce dell’edificio in dodici zone diversificate per consentire la programmazione di una varietà di scene gestibili con il sistema di controllo DMX. Cinquantasette Jasper dotati di snoot sono stati posizionati intorno all’edificio per illuminare le facciate della struttura di 11 piani con una dinamica variazione di tonalità di bianco. Per ottenere il lighting design desiderato, sono state utilizzate sette diverse ottiche, incluse ultra-spot con fascio di 7° e un fascio ellittico con orientamento verticale per evidenziare efficacemente le pareti alte e strette dell’edificio. Per completare il design, sei Jade 16 con ottica a fascio medio accentuano i dettagli del tetto. Gli apparecchi sono stati montati in diverse configurazioni utilizzando pali, staffe di montaggio a parete, picchetti di montaggio a terra o sono stati installati direttamente sulle superfici dell’edificio.
