Wireless communication has enabled businesses to reap the benefits of the digital economy. Before the discovery of wireless connectivity, data traveled through physical connections, making communications inefficient. Soon, the scenario changed with the introduction of wireless communication, which ruled out the need for wired communication. Since then, it has come a long way, evolving from 1G to 5G. However, the continuous evolution of technology in today’s digital economy has extended the scope of further development in wireless communication.

As information travels through the wireless spectrum, the efficient use of those spectrums is crucial to ensure they are effectively utilized for public benefit. Organizations’ reliance on manual spectrum analyzers instead of automated spectrum management reduced efficiency. Digital Global Systems Inc. (DGS) recognized this shortfall in spectrum management and embarked on a journey to simplify it with innovative solutions. As the future of wireless networks, DGS is transforming wireless communication across defense, transportation, utilities, public safety, and telecoms.

Having been honored as “The Most Innovative Companies to Watch 2025” by The CEO Views, DGS’s Chairman and CEO, Fernando Murias, engaged in a candid conversation with us to share the company’s journey towards success. Here is a glimpse at the interview of Fernando with The CEO Views team.

What was your inspiration behind the inception of the company? What was your mission at the outset?

The inception of DGS in 2013 was inspired by the realization that wireless spectrum management was lagging in terms of automation and efficiency. Organizations relied on manual spectrum analyzers requiring RF engineers to interpret data—a time-consuming and error-prone process. With the rapid growth of IoT and mobile technologies, we saw an opportunity to simplify spectrum management using AI and machine learning. Our mission was clear:

To transform how wireless networks are managed and optimized, enabling a smarter and more connected digital economy.

Please tell us about the company’s incredible journey and how it has evolved over the years.

DGS began by automating interference detection and grew into a leader in spectrum monitoring and optimization. We’ve developed patented technologies, built a portfolio of over 280 patents, and raised over $120M to drive innovation. Our solutions now power dynamic spectrum sharing and enable 5G and future 6G networks. The company has transitioned from an R&D focused organization to one poised for commercial success, partnering with industries such as telecommunications, defense, and public safety.

Explain briefly about the services offered by Digital Global Systems Inc.

DGS offers two flagship solutions:

• CLEARSITETM: Focused on wireless network optimization, providing real-time RF utilization data to reduce interference and enhance network performance.

• CLEARSKYTM: Designed to protect critical assets by detecting RF threats and anomalies in real-time, crucial for safeguarding infrastructure in today’s interconnected world.

These solutions use AI to deliver actionable insights, enabling autonomous optimization and dynamic spectrum sharing.

What is your approach to transforming communication networks in today’s digitalized world?

Our approach integrates cutting-edge AI and machine learning with real-time RF awareness to optimize spectrum usage dynamically. We process signals at the edge, providing instant insights that enable ultra-reliable, low-latency communications. This approach ensures that networks are prepared to meet the demands of modern applications, such as autonomous vehicles and industrial IoT.

What were the initial challenges you faced while integrating innovation in its service delivery?

One of the initial challenges was transitioning from a research-focused company to one ready for commercial production. Convincing stakeholders to adopt new technology in an industry resistant to change required persistence and a focus on building trust through demonstrable results. Additionally, managing a highly technical team in a rapidly evolving space demanded a strong emphasis on collaboration and learning.

As a next-gen software platform, how is DGS shaping the future of communication networks?

DGS is at the forefront of shaping communication networks through innovations in AI-driven spectrum optimization and dynamic spectrum sharing. Our patented solutions allow networks to operate more efficiently, support higher device densities, and provide real-time responses to spectrum challenges. In January 2024, DGS surpassed Qualcomm to become the global patent leader in spectrum management. The company is also recognized as the global leader in patents related to AI and Machine Learning for spectrum optimization, ensuring customers can navigate and excel in the new digital economy. These advancements are foundational for 5G and beyond, ensuring seamless connectivity in an increasingly crowded wireless landscape.

Being an innovator yourself, how do you drive innovation?

I foster a culture of collaboration and continuous learning within DGS. We encourage experimentation and view setbacks as opportunities for growth. By staying ahead of market trends and focusing on building a robust patent portfolio, we ensure that our solutions remain cutting-edge and impactful. Open communication and cross-functional teamwork are key drivers of our innovation.

What are your value propositions? How do you obtain a competitive advantage?

Our core value propositions are rooted in our ability to provide real-time RF awareness, dynamic spectrum sharing, and actionable insights powered by AI. With over 280 patents and a leadership team committed to innovation, DGS is uniquely positioned as a global leader in spectrum optimization. We’ve built a competitive advantage through our technology, strategic partnerships, and the ability to anticipate market needs.

What are your future visions for the company?

Our vision is to solidify our position as a global leader in spectrum management, expanding internationally and embedding our technology into the fabric of the digital economy. In 2025, we aim to exceed 300 patents, scale our solutions for 5G and 6G networks, and establish dynamic spectrum sharing as the industry standard. Innovation, partnerships, and market leadership will continue to drive our growth.

Would you like to give any advice to young and emerging entrepreneurs who aspire to step into the social sector?

My advice is simple: embrace challenges as opportunities, remain true to your vision, and never stop learning. Success requires persistence, integrity, and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. Build a strong team, foster collaboration, and always keep your mission at the heart of your decisions.
