Effective thermal management solutions are paramount in ensuring the optimal performance and longevity of electronic systems. By efficiently dissipating heat generated during operation, these solutions prevent overheating, reduce the risk of component failure, and enhance overall system reliability. Additionally, proper thermal management contributes to improved energy efficiency, as systems can operate at optimal temperatures, leading to lower energy consumption and reduced environmental impact. The benefits extend to increased product lifespan, reduced maintenance costs, and enhanced performance consistency, making thermal management an integral aspect of various industries, from electronics to automotive and beyond.
In light of this, APR Technologies AB stands out as a key player in delivering cutting–edge thermal management solutions. With a commitment to innovation, APR Technologies specializes in developing advanced cooling technologies that address the unique needs of diverse applications. Their expertise in thermal management not only ensures efficient heat dissipation but also contributes to the longevity and reliability of electronic systems. By providing tailor-made solutions that optimize thermal performance, APR Technologies plays a crucial role in enabling industries to overcome thermal challenges and maximize the efficiency and durability of their electronic components.
APR Technologies Redefines Thermal Management
Peter Nilsson founded the company with his partners, Are and Robert. Initially, APR Technologies provided consultancy services in the field of microelectronics and received grants to support the company’s technology development.
APR Technologies also secured its first development contracts with the space industry, created working prototypes, and filed patent applications. Over time, the company gained European and US customers, as well as collaborations overseas.
Additionally, the organization received additional governmental grants. Six years ago, it obtained its first investment and began developing technology for new markets such as batteries and ICT.
Although some questioned the company’s focus on improving battery packs, APR Technologies believed there would be a future demand for it.
APR Technologies has recently secured its initial contracts for significant quantities in the ICT and battery markets. As a result, they are now in need of constructing a factory to fulfill these commercial agreements.
APR Technologies successfully developed super–efficient chip cooling prototypes and battery packs that combined various advantages. They showcased their proto- types of high–performance battery packs. As their team grew beyond 20 people, they underwent organizational changes to enhance their structure, clarify responsibilities, and bring employees closer to their customers and markets.
APR Technologies governance expanded to include legal assistance, board work, and quality management systems. The strategic collaboration for chip cooling solutions with a large global company has been ongoing, and they are now ready to move toward high–volume production, sales, and future licensing.
APR Technologies‘ high–performance battery solutions have also led to a small production line where they sell samples and custom solutions to strategic customers. This success has prompted the company to expand their production capacity and explore potential licensing opportunities. Currently, the organization’s production capacity is the limiting factor. Initially, APR Technologies had to push for technology adoption, but now customers are actively seeking the organization’s technology.
Diverse Offerings and Pioneering Breakthroughs
In the field of space technology, APR Technologies collaborates closely with a select group of key customers. They will soon expand their offerings to a wider range of customers, providing thermal switches and mechanically pumped loops for both traditional and new–space constellations. These solutions feature micropumps that are incredibly small and do not have any moving parts.
APR Technologies has also developed direct liquid cooling solutions for the ICT industry. These solutions not only enhance performance but also reduce the CO2 footprint for both the user and the customer. Currently, these solutions are tailored to specific customers and require design modifications. However, APR Technologies is working towards making them more cost–effective and increasing production capacity. These solutions are not yet ready for a plug–n–play replacement of existing standard products on the market. In the battery sector, APR Technologies offers two business models. Firstly, they provide licensing of inventions that enhance the performance and safety of battery packs. Additionally, they offer high–performance battery packs in the 5-10 kWh size range. For instance, they have a 7kWh, 35kg module that is designed for high power, fast charging, and superior fire safety. This module is suitable for 19” rack mounting.
Our unique technologies deliver unmatched performance for applications in aerospace, electronics, and electric automotive systems.
Setting new standards for Power Efficiency
APR Technologies collaborates closely with a select group of customers to develop practical solutions using its technology and gain a deep understanding of their needs. This approach allows the company to create high–performing solutions, although they are not yet suitable for a wider customer base. To expand its reach and cater to more customers, APR Technologies standardizes its solutions and creates synergies between its products. However, to reduce costs significantly, the company needs to increase its production volume. Fortunately, the cost of scaling this technology is favorable, with high initial tooling costs but low replication costs.
This enables APR Technologies to lower costs when entering high–volume markets. Moreover, the technology is suitable for licensing, eliminating the need for large–scale production facilities. Instead, the company can establish efficient medium–sized production lines on relatively small plots of land. These production lines can be replicated in locations close to customers, simplifying logistics, warehousing, and on–demand production.
Currently, APR Technologies is striving for commercial success. It collaborates with major companies as customers and has attracted interest from others. To achieve its goals, the company must remain resilient and focused. Investor funding allows APR Technologies to prioritize strategically important tasks over urgent ones.
In addition to building efficient production capacity, the company also needs to establish a scalable organization for operations, administration, sales, and more. To support this, APR Technologies has formed small dedicated teams that work closely together, share common goals, and possess a deep understanding of the customer. For automation of production, the company has established a network of experienced consultants in robotics and automated production.
